The group invites cancer specialists and other specialists to educate its members. On March 19 (Tue), a representative from Ostomy Care and Supply will be giving a presentation.

Next Coffee Date: May 30
Our next coffee date is Thursday, May 30th, 2019 at 1:30 pm at Quality Foods in Driftwood Mall. Once you are on the 2nd floor go to the left to get your coffee, etc. and then go behind the coffee bar and towards the washrooms. The meeting room is opposite the washrooms. We will have a sign on the door that says “CVO SUPPORT GROUP COFFEE MEETING”.
Our next meeting is Monday, June 10, 2019 at 7 pm at the Public Health Unit (formerly called Comox Valley Community Health Centre), 961 England Ave, Courtenay. We will be having a “Just Us” evening where we will break into groups by type of ostomy and discuss various ostomy related topics. Each group will have a leader who will ask questions such as: what is your best tip for someone with an ostomy, what clothing do you find works best, what is your biggest challenge, etc. We will then reconvene and review the information discussed.

Next Meeting: Monday, May 27
Our next Peer Support Meeting will be held on MONDAY, MAY 27, 2019 because the third Monday of this month falls on the Victoria Day holiday. The May 27 meeting will be at 1:00 pm at Quality Foods, 27 Helmcken Road, 2nd Floor Room A Conference Room. Our speaker will be Robin Hryciuk from Nightingale Medical who will have information on a new fulcionel hernia belt, garments and services for ostomates.
For information: for our June 17th meeting Mr. Christen Prescott, Coloplast Representative, will be in attendance.

Please note the following announcements:
1. Maureen Mann, ET, is retiring effective May 7, 2019, after 17 years as an Enterostomal Therapist at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. She is keeping her private practice at Nightingale Medical Supplies one day per week for patients who obtain their supplies from the Nightingale. As well, she may do casual work in September if necessary. She hopes that younger ET’s will be hired in order to continue to serve the ostomates in our community.

Informal coffee breaks are held in the Second Floor meeting room at Country Grocer on Bowen Road in Nanaimo. (Watch this space for coffee dates.) Access is via the stairs through the door to the left of the entrance to the store’s cafeteria.
These are not business oriented get-togethers but rather just a group of ostomates, families and friends who meet once a month to spend some time in informal conversation and discussions on the various aspects of living with an ostomy. New people are always made welcome to the group!
